If you are quoting a post with an image, click on the image in your reply and tap the Delete key. One mouse click and one key entry and the image is gone. No fuss, no muss, no antacids, no HTML code and no anti-depressants necessary.

KCW, we're not at a point of wanting to modify any of the files, at present. If we make that change, it won't carry across to any upgrades anyway. I appreciate the offer, however.

No, you're not going to get 'blasted' for quoting an image that is 3-4 pages back in a thread. Although, if it becomes an issue down the road, we may have to re-address it.

Ron, quoting a message in a reply is not so tough, either. Look at the lower right corner of this post. See the Quote button? It does the work for you.
Mike, I tried a test quote without actually posting anything, but I couldn't find a delete button. This leads me to believe that I would actually have to post the quote with the image, and then delete the image. Is this a correct assumption? I have gotten around the images or quoted a small portion of a post by copying and pasting the selected text into my post, and then adding something like, "quote Mike1"
"A day spent in the fields and woods, or on the water should not count as a day off our allotted number upon this earth."

When you press the quote function you can just go in and edit out the bits you don't want example

that post you want to quote: blah ,blah [img]that picture to delete[/img]
just remove the part that startswith [img] and ends with [/img] (Take the whole thing don't leave the brackets ) This can be done even by using the backspace key.The picture goes away when you post your reply

I'm quoting Mike1 to demonstrate what Freelander Sporrano just suggested; this is what I normally do if I feel the need to reply to something specific in a previous post.

As for what Mike1 states (above), I completely understand: I had asked someone (in the past) not to do that with images I'd posted on this site but then found that I'd gone and mistakenly done the same thing (which I've since corrected) by quoting an entire post (which contained an image). It's just a great idea overall as it's less ''junk' in the Xmarks database and less of a drain on other users' bandwidth use (i.e. images hosted on other sites but linked here).

Okay, maybe this topic is slightly 'geek' but Mike1 makes a good suggestion.

I still never see the image tags, just the image when I try to quote, but this is what works for me. I', quoting Ron's post with the pic of his USA casual on he way back from New Mexicp and the gathering of nations.

[QUOTE=Riverkilt]Just got the pics from my lady's camera during our trip to Albuquerque for the Gathering of Nations. She took this pic of me up in the snow clouds on Sandia Peak on Saturday afternoon.

This is a CASUAL kilt from USA Kilts after wearing it to drive from Page to Grants, NM on Thursday - a lot of that was on dirt and sand backroads across the Navajo and Hopi Reservations. Wore it to dinner Friday night and to drive from Grants to Albuquerque Friday, then to Drive to Sandia Peak on Saturday. No washing, no ironing in between. So this is like day three...and look how those pleats are still hanging. And, as you can tell by the toothpick we'd just finished sitting through a long lunch.

Nice kilt Ron. I just copied the text part without the pic and pasted it into a new post. I'll keep working on the method suggested by Mike, Freedlander and others, but in the meantime, I'll use my method to help with the problem.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the image command told our computers where to access the image to be inserted; that was why some poeple's settings wouldn't allow an image even if XMarks was an allowed site. If that was the case, the image data wouldn't go through the main server anyway. Is that wrong?

I think I got that idea from an incedent where other people couldn't see access an image that I was seeing - someone told me that my computer was loading the image from my cache.

Sheesh, why didn't I just jump off a cliff?

When you use the IMG tags, the forum pulls an image in from another site. (Image gets transferred once)

If somebody quotes that post and leaves the image in, then the forum pulls the image a second time. (Double the transfer, plus additional wait for the thread to load the image a second time)

If the post gets quoted again and the image is still left in... Does this even remotely start to make sense?

The way images are cropping up in some posts, I'm beginning to wonder if they are being hot-linked from forum members' sites, or if they are just being pulled in from whatever Web site a forum member happens to be finding them on. If the latter instance is the case, then we're ripping transfer from remote sites and likely doing it without permission. And again, if that is the case and the image gets quoted in a reply, then were ripping that transfer a second time. And so on and so on.

I've posted some images that are stored on my own Web site, here on this one. I'm willing to give up the transfer on the data, so people here can enjoy the images. The images are mine and I'm paying the bill for the data transfer, so it's no harm, no foul.

However, if you are pulling images in from a third-party site, you should be seeking permission from the owner of that site.

Jerry, if you quote a message with an image, that Delete button I was mentioning is the one on your keyboard. Click on the image to highlight it and then hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

Thank you for clearing that up for me, mike. I have been looking for the delete key on the forum. I had thought I was going crazy or maybe not enough Scotch yet. I just tried a sample quote and it worked fine that way I don't know what we'd without you "Mod guys".

I fear that its the first in my case, although I am willing to be proven wrong.
