Gather 'round
We're still trying to speed up response times on the forum and we need your help.
If User A posts a picture with some comments and User B wants to respond to those comments by using the Quote function, that's all well and good. As long as User B cuts the image from the quote.
We're going to ask that images not be copied over into replies and responses, to see if we can run a bit more efficiently. Thanks for helping us out with this one!

Is it possible to change the way that it works within the forum code? ie: recode the quote function to search through the quoted text and remove the image code?
I'm not familiar with how vBulletin works, so I'm pretty much just spitballing here.

I'm sure that with the use of a conditional or two, that could happen.
However, by simply deleting the image in a quote, it will definitely happen.

well of course
But I thought I'd throw that out there in case you fellas might want to go that route to guarantee the images didn't make it to quotes, since there's no guarantee that users won't quote the image

Mike,
I have to go with Chasem on this one, expecting all of the members to remember to delete quoted IMG tags, let alone everyone being at the same level of knowledge to do so is asking a lot. Drop me a PM if you want to talk over some possible solutions. I have dealt with this before, just not sure how vBulletin, or the web server, is able to handle it.

This could be challenging or confusing in threads such as "Dos and Don'ts," when there are multiple images, and someone wants to comment on a particular one. To be honest, I haven't noticed a performance issue. Nevertheless, I promise to always try to limit my quoting to the essential material.

Seems olde age has its benefits in the high tech world.
For what its worth, I've never figured out how to use the quote feature and have survived well without it.
Wondered about how all those repeat photos were affecting the system.
Thanks for attending to it those of you who understand.

Sometimes one wants to make a comment or ask a question about a picture that's quite a ways back in the thread, with maybe several others that could be confused with it--I would just like to know if we will get blasted if we "quote" the picture in the reply? If that would be acceptable certainly I agree we could shorten up the pages in the common cases where there is no confusion.

Guys, it's a molehill. Let's not make more of it than it has to be.
If you are quoting a post with an image, click on the image in your reply and tap the Delete key. One mouse click and one key entry and the image is gone. No fuss, no muss, no antacids, no HTML code and no anti-depressants necessary.
KCW, we're not at a point of wanting to modify any of the files, at present. If we make that change, it won't carry across to any upgrades anyway. I appreciate the offer, however.
No, you're not going to get 'blasted' for quoting an image that is 3-4 pages back in a thread. Although, if it becomes an issue down the road, we may have to re-address it.
Ron, quoting a message in a reply is not so tough, either. Look at the lower right corner of this post. See the Quote button? It does the work for you.
