When I applied for a visa to visit the USA in 1987 I was refused because I had travelled to East Berlin fifteen years earlier as a student, through the National Union of Students.

I guess now that the Cold War's over they might just reconsider.

Either way, I've seen the quality of a few of my friends kilts from the same store and it's definitely worth the money. Just as good quality as the local Father and Son kilt store and half the price!

I'll have to visit Slanj soon to see what they are all about, like you Arlen I have heard fairly good reports about their prices and the quality of their kilts

Another point Arlen, have you noticed the increasing number of kilt shops springing up in almost evey place you travel through in the last few years, there must be money to be made in this expanding market and I am not talking about the cheap kilts for approximately £40 that are ok for messing about at a football or rugby match

Happy new kilt Arlen, (when it shows up). I wish you and Diane all the best in your upcoming marriage. does this mean Diane will be finishing up her orders before the wedding? I have a Jones of my own going on right now.

*Laughs* I should hope she'll be finished by the wedding. I've already made her promise to make me a pair of cable knit hose for the wedding.

I call her every two days and we usually spend about an hour talking. And I can usually hear the needles clicking away in the background.

Well, I got good and bad things today.
The bad news is that the tartan for my kilt is on back order so I won't get the kilt until September. (At least they called to let me know and give me a choice.)
The good news is that I ordered a bespoke Indie Denim kilt from Unionkilts. (Richard was nice enough to let me know they can have one made with a shorter drop length for me.)
And my new sporran arrived.

Now, I will admit, I ordered it on Ebay so I wasn't expecting fantastic quality.
But I got fantastic quality.
It looks and feels great, is sturdy, well made and spacious.
Soft but firm with a proper cantle and not one of these tin ones that fall off really easily.

I am more than thrilled with it. And there is a plain circle at the top of the cantle where I can either fit a clan crest or have something engraved.

And, to top it off, at a local kiltstore's sale I managed to find a 6 yard, 13/14 oz tweed kilt (Tweed made by Morrisons Tweed and wool mill) for 30 pounds. (About 60 U.S Dollars)
AND a 7 yard, 11oz navy blue solid coloured kilt for 15 punds!!!
Both of these are really great quality. I just need to get them altered a little to fit me, but otherwise they are perfect.
So as soon as they are ready I will have pictures.

Now if I can find a tweed coat that matches the kilt to convert...
