The jonesing begins...
So after a lot of struggling over which tartan I wanted to wear to my wedding and how much I wanted to pay, I ordered an 8 yard, heavyweight Macdonald muted kilt this afternoon from Slanj.
The gentleman serving me obviously wasn't accustomed to anyone actually knowing what they want in a kilt. (I was very specific about which stripe I wanted it pleated to and how many buckles I wanted.)
My nice, new kilt should be ready in 6-8 weeks. And then I only get to try it on once before the wedding!

*Sighs*
I've already changed my desktop to the Macdonald muted tartan.
And ordered a sporran that will go with the kilt.

Arlen, it's amazing that the person you dealt with in Slanj was'nt accustomed to someone knowlegeable about kilts. Slanj are always advertising in the newspapers and getting free publicity with every foreign footballer and personality who comes to Glasgow, giving them a free kilt in order to court publicity.
They are probably more used to the individual wanting to hire or buy a kilt for his wedding probably a first time wearer.
Hope your outfit is to your liking for your wedding, look forward to the photos.

I have to say, I was quite surprised, too.
When I first called them to get a quote the guy I spoke to on the phone was fine about it and didn't seem to have any problems with it.
Perhaps I just got a new guy.
Either way, I've seen the quality of a few of my friends kilts from the same store and it's definitely worth the money. Just as good quality as the local Father and Son kilt store and half the price!

I'll have to visit Slanj soon to see what they are all about, like you Arlen I have heard fairly good reports about their prices and the quality of their kilts
Another point Arlen, have you noticed the increasing number of kilt shops springing up in almost evey place you travel through in the last few years, there must be money to be made in this expanding market and I am not talking about the cheap kilts for approximately £40 that are ok for messing about at a football or rugby match

Just noticed this, Jimmy. Sorry about the late reply.
Yes, there do seem to be new kilt shops everywhere. And a lot of them are trying to capitalize on these 'modern kilts' without really knowing what they are talking about.
I think there must be a lot of money to be made if you can find a fabric source cheap enough.
