For what it's worth, here is the cest size/sleevel length chart that I spoke of. This comes from Lochcarron, so it is definitely true for their jackets, and from my experience is also true throughout the industry.
Sizes are given as chest size/sleeve length in inches, for regular fitting jackets. Short will be 1" less in the sleeve, and long will be 1" more.
36/23.5
38/24
40/24.5
42/25
44/25
46/25
48/25.5
50/26
52/26
54/27

In the context I'd like to stress that sleeve length should be short enough to expose some shirt and cuff links. With proper shirt length (ending before the wrists) one should have when the arms are in a resting position (like typing at a keyboard) about 1 cm (1/2 inch) of shirt showing. With fancy lace cuffed shirts the length of the shirt is a bit more and the style of jacket calls for a slightly shorter arm length to expose a bit more lace.
In many online sites and catalogs, jackets are shown with overly long arms. Example:

The above is shamefully from Kinloch Anderson. I hope they'd NEVER send a customer of the shop dressed like that.
When it should like this (just searched the net until I found a good image so its a nearly random choice):

DamnthePants did I miss why you are looking for the jacket? Is it formal, or just to have a jacket with the kilt that can be used for different occasions? Once you have been measured, as suggested any goods mens shop should be glad to measure you even if you aren't buying a jacket from them, you have a lot of options. You could go to Uniformwearhouse (www.uniformalwearhouse.com) and buy a single button Eton jacket it looks like a cross between a PC and a military mess jacket. Wear it with a single button for informal/semi-formal occasions. Add silver buttons on the cuff, sides of the jacket and you become more formal.
If you search you will find a number of threads on converting a rental tails coat to a PC. On the web My Own Tuxedo (http://www.myowntuxedo.com/detail.aspx?ID=799) has previously rented/owned tuxedos on sale. The one above is listed at $20. An evening or two with a needle and thread and some silver buttons and you have a really nice PC.
Your choices are unlimited and with the experience and help available here the results should be fantastic.

I am looking for something a step up from casual ( as in possibly everyday wear), but below black tie formal. I guess it would be something that says to people "I dont wear this for just any old occasion". Its for a wedding ( going to, not participating in)
Thanks for the links. For 40$ and 20$ respectivly, it wouldnt hurt to at least try them out.
Thanks

DamnthePants I would suggest that you look at the Eaton jacket at Uniformwearhouse. The cost is about $40 and requires little effort. I could be worn right out of the mail.
Don't forget to send pictures.

Missed this thread. Just posted on a newer one.
Because my body size isn't near off the rack jackets, even with Short and Long adjustments. I paid for a made to measure argyll jacket, well actually two now. They're made by Lochcarron and sewn to my measurements.
I ordered through Kathy Lare of Kathy's Kilts. Very pleased. Cost was $334. Very fair for a made to measure jacket.
If your size is "different" from the most common, why not order a made to measure through someone like Matt or Kathy and get it done so it fits?

One again a bunch of great ideas from the rabble.
Cacun, thanks for the link to www.myowntuxedo.com what a great deal!
So the question for everyone, or anyone who has the knowledge. Can we convert a full dress tail coat into a PC? Will the coat be too short? Will the back be ok?
This is a new adventure and I'd like to do it as right as I can on lite budget. If I do this right I may be able to afford a conversion PC and a conversion Argyle
Thanks for the help and continuing education.
Cheers,
