One myth I heard was that if you look in a mirror and say "Edward the 1st" five times, Mel Gibson will appear and make you watch Braveheart.

Last January, I was at a Burns Supper, and was at the same table as an older man from Scotland. We started talking about kilts and then the history of kilts...

...I'll assume you can guess where this is going.

So anyway, I say something along the lines of "I didn't really like the movie Braveheart because it is so historically inaccurate. Kilts weren't worn before the 16th century!" To which the elder Scotsman replies, "No, laddie, you're wrong. There's a statue of William Wallace in Stirling of him wearing a kilt!" And after I explained all of the other inaccuracies (Princess Isabella, Irish soldiers, etc.) and then cited the fact that no evidence of kilts exists before the end of the 1,500's and the movie is set in the 1,300's, he was still unconvinced.

At least I learned something--Scots are stubborn!

No it's true. Somebody even posted pictures (using Mike1's tutorial I might add). And in an amazing stoke of Hollywood casting genius they cast an actor (Mel Gibson) who looked just like William Wallace!

All of these experts in Scotland that make up these myths and worry about the kilt police must be the reason that the majority of people that wear the Kilt on a regular basis live in a country other than Scotland.

Everyone In Scotland must afraid of being fined or imprisioned if they don't wear it right.

Someone should tell then that if they don't wear a kilt they can't make the rules.

Well that doesn't look like Gibson. And I'm not too comfortable with the camera angle .
