I remember it being cool like Andrew discribed, but not cold like the pubs here sell it. I have yet to find a Guinness as good as one from a tap in Ireland, but I am commited to continuing my search
Personally I sometimes prefer Murphy's stout, but have a hard time finding it.

Let's be fair though, there are some nice lagers for summer time (Stella...).

I don't like it cold or warm. I prefer it cool. When I was in Scotland, Guinness was just starting to be sold on two taps in the pubs; the second tap was very cold, and you couldn't even taste the stuff.
Like someone else said, though, there are usually other stouts in the pubs that I'd take over Guinness; it's the "stout of last resort" for me.

You know, I was in Ireland in March, so it was pretty chilly. I guess "cool" and "cold" are relative.... And the Guinness was cold, but not "served ice cold in a frosty glass" cold...
Murphy's is quite good. I can get it at Trader Joe's... I don't know if you have those or something similar in Canada.

Lager is just a joke all round, for those that can't do real beer.
Except for Bockbier:

Great web site, btw. In fact, I think I'll have a Spaten Optimator this evening!
Prost!

Spaten is one of Munich's best beers and the Optimator can only be described as delicious! I wish it were easier to come by near me...
And who ever was talking about Murphy's, I personally like to alternate that and Guinness. Well and Smithwick's. If I'm lucky enough to be at a bar with all three, that is! And none of them warm, thank you very much!

Grant - you have single handedly offended most of the craft brewers around the world. If you are comparing Molson and Labatt with US mass produced beer that is one thing, but globally, all mass produced beer is swill, and chilling only masks the true flavor by numbing the taste buds. Go for the craft and micro breweries for a decent beer.
