Guinness is best served in Ireland, although drunk in vast quantities elsewhere it doesn't travel.
Pretty much agree with everything Andrew said.
Lager is just a joke all round, for those that can't do real beer

I don't like it cold or warm. I prefer it cool. When I was in Scotland, Guinness was just starting to be sold on two taps in the pubs; the second tap was very cold, and you couldn't even taste the stuff.
Like someone else said, though, there are usually other stouts in the pubs that I'd take over Guinness; it's the "stout of last resort" for me.

Great web site, btw. In fact, I think I'll have a Spaten Optimator this evening!
Prost!

Spaten is one of Munich's best beers and the Optimator can only be described as delicious! I wish it were easier to come by near me...
And who ever was talking about Murphy's, I personally like to alternate that and Guinness. Well and Smithwick's. If I'm lucky enough to be at a bar with all three, that is! And none of them warm, thank you very much!

If you can find a good beer store they may order it by the case for you. I did that with a German Black Lager, Kostritzer. In westminster, Md. I dont know the va sales laws.
