Well, it's not very fancy or expencive. It's pretty much the regular SWK sporran with rabbit fur on the front and the tassels are little fur things hanging on chains. I would say it's a cross between the trucker model and the kids model. It's kind of nice with the bunny fur on the front, but it's deffinitly not a horsy sporran or the Pepe Le Pue sporran. Kind of wish I had a bear sporran. Hope that helps.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

A fur sporran for hunting!? Only if you are riding side-saddle. If they mean shooting or stalking, then you want a ghillie to handle the guns and reload for you. And, if kilted, you want a good cowhide sporran that won't snag in the heather, gorse and bracken. A fur sporran, once wet, will look like some sort of drowned cat tied 'round your waist. I've hunted, stalked, and shot for nearly half a century and, aside from busting clays in a kilt at a charity shoot, I've never seen anyone seriously out in the field in a kilt other than hunt servants. Gaawd but tartan shops have a lot to answer for....

I know several hunters who hunt in Buz Kidder canvas kilts. It's not a traditional kilt, but a traditional kilt, as they are now, probably wouldn't be good for hunting. That still leaves the question, when does one wear a basic brown rabbit fur sporran. I dress fairly casually, the most formal being a plain shirt and tie.

Thank all of you for your advice. The trip has long passed, and sadly, I did not end up taking my kilt. You now have a picture to look at up in my first post if you happen to stumble across this old thread.

MacMillan of Rathdown, I am sorry I didn't have the picture when you posted because I would have liked to see what you thought: good or bad. Perhaps some day...

Ted,I think rabbit fur sporran looks grand. Which is better than good, because it implies a sense of style as well as being well-dressed for the occasion. What a pity you didn't get to "WOW" them with your kilt.

 Thank you, MacMillan of Rathdown.

I was flying into New Mexico for a one day trip to see my sister graduate from college; she's a nurse. There wasn't enough time to wait for luggage, so I had to fit everything in a carry-on. It was a choice between gifts or the kilt. I wasn't ready to go through the airport metal detector with the kilt yet...

I am having a brown corduroy jacket adapted to go with this outfit.

 Thank you for your comments.

When I lived in Southern California I had a corduroy jacket and waistcoat made to wear with my kilt-- it's two greatest virtues were that it wasn't nearly as hot as the tweed stuff, and virtually nobody else had one.
I think I'd also get a pair of either snuff coloured or brown hose to go with your outfit, which would really set you apart from the crowd.

Brown hose sound like a perfect idea, MacMillan of Rathdown. I just recalled that the corduroy jacket has a matching vest. I think I will go look up the threads on adapting a vest to go with a kilt.
 Thank you for the suggestions.

I took a look at that vest... I need to read up on all this to get a better idea of what needs to be done. The vest almost works on it's own, but the front would be a little to long with the planned sporran cut away for the jacket.
