Funny Bunny Story or what happened AFTER the Celtic festival
For those of you keeping track, Saturday and Sunday were the Celtic Festival here in Chicago and was my first large group kilt outing. We thoroughly enjoyed the festival and met with auld_argonian and his daughter to enjoy the highland games on Saturday.
After spending most of the afternoon at the festival, we decided to head over to Navy Pier, a kind of boardwalk/shopping/restaurant area built on a pier that sticks out into Lake Michigan and is very popular. We enjoyed some drinks adn music, let the kids ride some of the rides and enjoyed the sunset and a beautiful full moon rise. As we were heading to the taxi line, a small bunny ran out of the bushes next to the Bubba Gump restaurant and headed on a beeline for the 3 lanes of traffic between him and the park on the far side of the road. Besides the line of taxis, there were probably 15-20 cars pulling in and out and a white stretched limousine pulling in. As I saw the bunny racing for the road, all I could see in my mind was the bunny being crushed under the wheels of a car. I immediately began running forward thinking I might be able to catch him before he got to the road. Well, I guess the bunny wasn't really ready to accept a large guy in a kilt as his savior, so he started to run faster, and still right for the cars. At this point I decided I might as well try and facilitate his dash to safety by trying to stop traffic, so I began waving my arms like a madman and ran into the road to stop traffic. The driver of the limo looked at me like I was nuts but he stopped, another vehicle slowed down, and the bunny came through like a world class running back, cutting around both of those vehicles, behind a third and then making it to safety in the park on the far side of the road. To celebrate, and let everybody know he made it safely, I turned to walk back to my wife and kids and pumped my fists in the air (a la Rocky) and yelled "He made it", not really thinking at the time how the whole episode must have looked to all of the diners at Bubba Gump's and the rather large crowd of people coming and going to Navy Pier. My wife later told me that 2 guys near her were commenting that I was going to get myself killed and there was no way I would be able to save the bunny, but all of the women were cheering me on and were very glad every thing worked out. Thanks for the support ladies!
Anyway, another lengthy post, but I hope everybody enjoys this funny story (just visualize the picture of a large kilted gentleman doing all of the above and you should definitely smile!).

Crack me up! Reminded of the old cartoon that would have a group of rabbits on the other side of the road in the park and when your bunny made it they'd shout, "All Right! Billy's in the club! He beat the cars, he beat the trucks, he beat the limos, and he even had a cheerleader!!"
Talk to me about Bubba Gump's restaurant...I'm guessing they serve shrimp...apricot shrimp? I have the Bubba Gump cookbook....and I love shrimp.
Where is this place you call "Chicago?"

Ron,
Bubba Gump's is a shrimp/seafood restaurant based on the movie Forest Gump. Not sure if it is a chain or not, and I have not eaten there yet myself. However, it was packed on Saturday at arount7:45, so was at least a popular dining destination regardless of the food quality!
As for where Chicago is, its a little place on a small lake, just go north from Page until you hit Salt Lake City, turn right, and straight on till you hit a large body of water and you'll be there!

They have a Bubba Gump at pier 39 in San Francisco. I ate there when I was down there for a weekend smithing class a couple months ago. Good shrimp, fun atmosphere and to get the waiters attention you flip the license plate on the table from RUN FOREST RUN to STOP FOREST STOP.

Good for you, KCW! It's tough for the small furry animals to survive in "civilization", so it's great to see you lend a hand.
As you pointed out, Bubba Gump's is sort of a theme restaurant based on the movie Forrest Gump. The movie plays constantly, shrimp is the main thing on the menu, and it's a lot of fun. We've eaten at the one in Honolulu (Ala Moana Centre) and in Times Square. Both were packed! They seem to be expanding slowly. Good is on tap!
