I'm really glad I didn't stop throwing at the end of the first season. Like I said, lots and lots of guys don't turn a caber until their 5th-6th-7th Games. This is my 6th, so I'm right "on schedule"!

WooHoo!!! Great Job Alan. I had a banner day as well at Prescott, but I'll talk about that later.
Man, you hit some great milestone and I can't wait to see the video. Looking forward to actually BEING at a game with you some day.

To hear about how well you are doing just excites me even more, and makes me want to train that much harder. Hopefully I will be posting results soon. Keep up the good work and throw hard.
We want pics and video of your first outing! That work in the weight room is gonna pay off! Work hard and HAVE FUN, and remember that the guys who've been doing this a long time are going to be a lot better but THAT DOESN'T MATTER. You are out there to challenge YOURSELF. Your first Games will set benchmarks that you will almost certainly break in your second and third Games. Keep at it, and come back for a second season. I am amazed at how the off season and then getting back into it has made such a huge difference.

Wow Alan, the hammer throws look great! Your low point looks good, right at the one o'clock position. Your stance looks great too, nice long arms all the way through as well. Your hammers might fly a little higher because you're a bit more upright through the winds than ideal, but as long as you aren't bumping dirt who cares? Good explosive release too, everything looks good.
Have you tried getting a third rotation in there consistently? I did a three rotation vs two rotation throw this weekend and added four and half feet to my throw.
I wanted to go back and congratulate you on the caber again. I remember the first time I turned a caber in competition... man, what a feeling! Cabers are probably the iconic Highland event, once you get a turn there YOU HAVE ARRIVED!

HEY! Thanks, Walker K!
Yaish, I got started doing 2 turns with the 22 lb and stuck with it 'cause I wasn't sure I could hold on to it. But at Livermore I "accidentally" did three turns on the first throw and I didn't lose it, so ...Hmmm.
I do three turns on the 16 lb hammer, tho.

Saw the videos looks great, can't wait to get out there. And you are right I am doing this for me, to compete with myself to see if this 40 something old man can get out there and better himself.
