Rush is THE most technically proficient and artistic band out there. Been a huge fan, but lost touch with their music awhile back.
I disagree, but not by much. Dream Theater are better. But not by much. (Let the arguing commence!!)

Oh, the gloves (as we hockey fans would say ) are off! The fight is on!
I like both bands, but I would wager the lads in DT are huge Rush fans.
Just sayin'.

Yeah, if you watch the score dvd for dream theater, they were waiting in line for tickets to a Rush concert at the Berklee Performance Center while listening to Rush on a boom box. They commented that the ending of the song "Bastille Day" sounded "majestic." Thats how the name Majesty came up, which was the bands original name when they were still playing in Berklee practice rooms (covering Rush and Iron Maiden).
I have to agree that technically, Dream Theater is much better than Rush. But, rush is more accessible to non-musicians.

I'll stay out of the Rush-DT fight but have to say Rush has always been a favorite band of mine. It seemed they were always more of a musician's band though, for some reason the general public never really "got it" for lack of a better term.
I saw them live once and it was just amazing to see 3 guys standing on stage making all of that music.

Well, of course they are! As a musician, how can you not at least appreciate them? I don't really like Rush myself, but if I could see them, you bet I would jump at the chance. Rush and DT concerts are like conventions of inappropriately employed musicians- which is why the general public don;t get them. I once had a guy tell me (with a serious face no less!) that Avenged Sevenfold could play rings around Dream Theater. I just about fell over laughing...

Rofl i nearly did too. In regards to DT I can respect and aprecciate their music but overall I do not enjoy it probably due to whenever I talk to a fan there was this air of musical elitism that I dont enjoy associating myself with. not to say that all fans are like this BUT telling me to stop listening to slayer and sepultura because they dont play massive scales and arpeggios or even pay attention to music theory is not the best way to get me to listen to DT( this did actually happen) I understand their talent but I'll stick with Rush lol

Yeah, I've been told that, too. I hate the elitism you're talking about. I listen to stuff like Disturbed, as well, and the reality is- they suck! They just happen to apeal to me. So screw em- screw 'em all!
