The pictures are not very clear, but I think they look rather plastic. Do you think the brand name is a play on the "crocs" brand (plastic sandals)?

A little history on this person for our members.

This person appeared on the forum back in Oct. of last year.
He was blatently advertising and hawking his wares.
Not only was he violating our rules but when repetedly asked to stop he refused.
In the end the Forum Moderators were forced to ban him.

His posts were moved, first to the sick ward, and finally to our morgue so perhaps most of you never saw them.

Unfortunatly this persons' behaviour prevented anyone from buying any of these at the time and providing us with a review.

Although they look as if they might be a viable alternative for someone with small feet who has to wade water, Steve's comments make me disinclined to want to deal with the guy. He sounds a bit like a jerk.

And life is just too short to deal with braying jackasses.

I prefer the sweet, gentle, even ways of the rabble.

I saw a pair in person. YES, they are a play on the word 'crocs' and YES, they do feel like a pair of crocs (in material and overall weight).

The BIG negative I saw was that with a LITTLE pressure on tightening the laces, one of the eyelets ripped on the sample pair we had. Since it was a 'rubber', there's nothing that could be done to fix it. Apparently, it's been a problem. From their FAQ page:

How do I tie the laces?
Do not cinch the laces! Unlike traditional leather ghillie brogues, Ghillators™ Ghillie Brogues do not require excessive force exerted when tying laces...

Also, I showed them to a piper to ask his opinion. They are supposed to retail for $50 or so. His comments were: "You (usakilts) have a pair of leather ghillies on sale for $80. Why would I buy a pair of these rubber ones for $50 when I could buy a real pair for $30 more?"

From a REATILER standpoint, I thought it definitely wasn't a good idea... they wanted us to buy 10 pairs per size and carry their full size range and the numbers they offered didn't come close to being 'good retail marjins'.

If they were $25 retail would I buy a pair? Maybe as a joke or to wear in the rain.

Besides the issue of rubber ghillies nd tearing of the eyelets, did anybody beside me notice the slightly inconventional way the laces are tied? I was taught that the 5-6 twists in the laces should yield a vertical spiral above the upper most set of eyelets, which is supported by this turorial quoted by Jamie in his "How to tie ghille brogues turorial" in this very forum:

The model in the Ghillators photo has his twists done in a horizontal fashion more like one would do with regular shoes. Not a very good sign of authenticity.

Over at Dunsire people have been reasonably happy with them, FWIW. Do a search for Ghillators and you'll easily find the discussion.
