Shepherd's plaid kilt hose
Finished both socks!

This project requires attention! It’s not for relaxed knitting with a glass of wine.
This project was much harder than I thought it would be. It was easy to get off-track with the plaid pattern, and the stranding makes the stocking less elastic than plain knitting.
I had to re-chart Mrs. Newsome’s pattern, because I needed to see the whole leg, not just a segment.
I dyed the Scots green. The oatmeal is not dyed.
I made the heels and toes out of a different sock yarn, with a nylon thread reinforcement. I used a garter ridge, so that I can easily cut them out and replace them. This was Elf's idea, my execution.
If I make these again, I will have four inches of the calf at 70 stitches, for Steve’s 16.5” calf.
