NY 79th Highlander relative from upstate NY
Hi
I found this site recently and thought I might join. I am the great great great grandson of Joseph Dowling. He was a 79th Highlander who died at the seige of Knoxville during the Ameriican Civil war. His death along with 12 other men of the unit were immortalized in a pen and ink drawing of their headstones called 'Graves of the Highlanders'. I have inherrited an original copy of this print that has ben handed down and has hung in our family homes for the past almost 150 years. With the advent of the internet I have learned a lot about the unit and have collected as much documentation and information as I can. I hope that this site will help me learn even more and maybe meet some interesting people as well.
