Hemp
I can't find the link right now but I read that hemp was made illegal because the brother(in-law?) of the president of Dupont was head of the FDA or some such organisation in the US. Dupont wanted their synthetic fabrics to sell more, so hemp had to go because it was too versatile. Solution? Link it to pot in the public's mind and make it illegal.
I have made several hemp kilts. The fabric is prone to wrinkling in all weights, though less in the heavier weights. I think I'll use the leftover fabric for something a little more utilitarian. Hats, or gaiters, or something like that.
