Hemp Kilt (as seen at kiltmen.com)
There is a company making hemp kilts that you may want to check out. I know I know we will get pot jokes but most educated people know the difference! (that being said I bet the conversation still goes to pot!)

I saw those. I like the idea. Hemp is a very sturdy fabric. What jeans were made of before cotton. Dunno why they switched. Cheaper I suppose.
But wait, that doesn't add up. Marijuana is the largest cash crop in the world. We should have more hemp garments. And this coming from a non-pot-smoker.

Hemp
I can't find the link right now but I read that hemp was made illegal because the brother(in-law?) of the president of Dupont was head of the FDA or some such organisation in the US. Dupont wanted their synthetic fabrics to sell more, so hemp had to go because it was too versatile. Solution? Link it to pot in the public's mind and make it illegal.
I have made several hemp kilts. The fabric is prone to wrinkling in all weights, though less in the heavier weights. I think I'll use the leftover fabric for something a little more utilitarian. Hats, or gaiters, or something like that.

I WAS GONNA SAY...
I remember you telling me some time back that you were gonna give it a try. Glad to see that it didn't take hold since the Bush daughters would have depleted their entire allowance on them! 8)

Yes we make Hemp Kilts.
While I don't want to sound too heavily promotional, I'd just like to say that we do indeed make Hemp Kilts. And jackets, shirts, hats and more to come.
The idea originally hit us while travelling overland from Thailand through Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Tibet and finally Nepal and after a couple of years R and D, trial and error, and general hair-pulling and frustration we now have a small but growing business. The technology side is based in Australia, production in Thailand.
We use three different types of hemp cloth, which we get direct from the Hmong hilltribes people who reside in the golden triangle area. Along with various temperate climate fruits, coffee, tea, etc... this cash crop helps them get away from their reliance on opium as a source of livelihood.
Our main model (the HILT) is a very reasonable $100 and each one's made to measure.
I could go on and on about how great Hemp is and the previous post about the US Govt's suppression of hemp thanks to DuPont's money is all very well documented. Industrial hemp has the tiniest trace amount of THC - so little that it's been said you'd have to smoke a whole field just to raise a smile.
We're currently in the process of upgrading and revamping our website with loads more pix and some new products on the way.
I'll let y'all know when this happens but in the meantime thanks for your time and if you have any questions regarding hemp or the HILT then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Yours truly,
Adam Florance

Looks interesting, I'd like to see one in the flesh before commiting to one.
Cheers Rhino
