However, the Image kindly provided by 'davidlpope' of the english/German prince of england-charles; shows the height of the socks on this writer-he & are of the same height. Thus it appears that I am a victim of Unknowing & a Practiioner of lost fashions. Thus I conclude- with all of your kind assistance, that mid-calf is now 'correct' for kilt hose.
If you're referring to the photo above, I'm at a loss as to how you can describe that as "mid-calf". His hose are clearly over the calf, and just a smidge below the knee where they should be.

Furthermore, I'm having a hard time understanding where you get the idea that there is historical precedent for kilt hose ever being worn higher than this (and I assume as a historian you are already aware that kilt hose are not the same as hose meant to be worn with breeches). The height of kilt hose shown in the photo above is not exactly a new trend; in fact, kilt hose are generally worn longer today than they were historically. Every historical portrait I can think of shows the hose being worn just over the widest part of the calf, and no higher. If you are claiming otherwise, would you mind pointing us to photographic examples?
