My wife says she no longer notices and as I am kilted most of the time, I guess that is no more or less than I would expect. If you asked me what she is wearing at the moment, I could not tell you as she is not in, so it cuts both ways.
We don't get many comments either, at least that I can hear. On a recent visit to France I wore a kilt all the time, except for swimming, and I can only recollect getting 4 comments. One from our gitte proprietor who said her husband was envious, one from a Brit in a market who said "good for you", the 3rd from a young lady selling us boat trip tickets who said "c'est bon", or something to that effect, (neither my french or my hearing is brilliant), and the 4th from another British lady who said it was good to see me keeping to my Scottish heritage. The latter may have been a double entendre, as my wife, sitting opposite me, said afterwards that she hoped the lady concerned could not see what she could see. So do I, although I have to admit that her husband and I were engrossed in a photography discussion and I was not paying as much attention as usual to the way I was sitting, it was at right angles to the lady in question, so I assumed safe. I also got complaints about the photography discussion!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
