I like dealing with kilt maker because it's worth the peace of mind knowing that I can speak directly to the person making my kilt.
Yes very wise! I hadn't thought of it in exactly those terms, but in fact every kilt I own was purchased from a kilt MAKER.
Admittedly one of my kilts was made by House Of Edgar, but it was ordered through a local kilt maker who also has a retail shop. She only orders kilts from places which she has found to be reliable. I wanted the kilt more quickly than she was able to accommodate due to her queue, hence the HOE order.
BTW here's the Atlanta Kilts site, and they do specify 6-8 yards and three loops. So a 6-yard kilt and three loops wouldn't have surprised me.

Their whole site strikes me as something of a Red Flag. "Sheeps wool"?? Isn't that called "wool"?
Personally I won't touch an acrylic kilt with an 8-yard pole.
But I can see, if one is in a time pinch, picking up a less-than-optimal kilt, while the real kilt is on order. Myself I would have bought a vintage wool real kilt on Ebay, or a Hire Shop, and had it in a week.
