Well, yesterday I had my first experience with a windy day while kilted. And I don't mean just a slightly strong breeze, the wind here was blowing steady at 25-30mph with gusts to 50! About like being in a tropical storm, but without the rain, and a little bit colder as it was about 50 degrees.

Anyway, took my daughters to the mall to play and get some lunch. Knowing it was windy I wore my newest (and heaviest!) kilt, a 16oz PV puchased off eBay. Getting the girls out of the truck, and into the stroller for the walk into the mall was not too bad, and I was wearing a slightly longer coat. Had the front apron fly up and the kilt pin got hung up on the sporran, but no problem, just flipped it back down and was thankful for the underapron.

However, on the way back out of the mall and walking to the vehicle, the wind had picked up. I was walking pretty much into the wind pushing a double wide stroller that has a huge surface area. Good thing I am as big as I am or we might have been stuck at the mall until the wind died down!

At one point I had to turn and walk between the parked vehicles to get over to the row where mine was parked. As I got between the 2 cars, the wind picked up from the rear, and with the funnel effect of the cars, I am sure that I answered the question for anybody following me! Luckily the wind had just gusted and the pleats came right back down.

So to finish up the afternoon, we drove over the the local theater and watched the new Chicken Little movie and really enjoyed it. Got some stares in the theater, but no comments. A good day out!
