The two guys I knew were both friends and mentors of mine in AA. One was a corpsman aboard the U.S.S. Arizona but he'd been in town and gotten very very drunk the night before and thrown in the brig on shore. Probably saved his life.
The other guy was a fighter pilot that arrived on Dec 8th...too late to get killed, but able to help clean up the mess.
