Yay, me! It feels like Christmas in the Newsome household. I just completed a new kilt for myself Saturday morning, and I got to showcase it when I travelled down to Atlanta to give a talk to the St. Andrews Society there (which is a wonderful group, by the way).

Here is a photo of myself and fellow X Marker, Cawdorian.

My new kilt is the MacQuarrie tartan, as recorded in the Cockburn collection, c. 1815. I had it woven in traditional early nineteenth century colors (ala Wilson's of Bannockburn). It is, of course, a four yard box pleated kilt. I'm really in love with these colors! There is a long story as to why I wanted this kilt, which I'll probably write up as a blog post in the near future (be on the lookout).

But while I was down there at the meeting of the St. Andrews Society, I met up with Lamar Adron Britt, the master craftsman behind the Ferguson Britt line of sporrans. I picked up a few sporrans he had ready for me (including a black leather Inversnaid model for a certain X Marker, as well as some fur Glengyles that will be offered at a sale price -- yes, more details on that will be posted later). But, most exciting for me, he had finished the bobcat sporran I had been dreaming about for some time.

I selected an Inverarnan style for this sporran, as I like capacity and the extra wide opening at the top. The bobcat pelt for this sporran is amazingly beautiful in its color and pattern. I really was very pleased with it.

So today, I wore it all day at the museum. I liked it well enough when I picked it up, but after wearing it all day, I'm just in love! Here's the pics:

Full body.

Wide mouth and large capacity.

Great new kilt, great new sporran.... I must be doing something right!
