So, ever since I got my picture took with a Canon Digital Rebel a few years ago I've wanted one myself....well, through the mysteries of the universe I now have one. But dang, its like being the first day in astronaut training. Been studying up on it for a couple week now. After work took a couple test pics with the timer.

As cool as this camera is (Canon Digital Rebel XTi/400D) I found that when I reduce the pic size to a reasonable one for posting that the tartan gets scrambled. A while back someone explained what this was called and why.

Here's an example of the reduced pic size that Infranview does. Think its 640x800. Thats my new USA Kilts semi trad in Dress Gordon after a long day in the office. Never mind the white shoes...was trying it out.

And here's what happens if I crop the same pic but leave it large. The croping reduces a lot, but it still big, but the camera gets a great shot of the tartan.

Still a lot to learn but this is the first day after over three weeks of study, that I've set up the camera, shot with the timer, downloaded, then tried to figure out how to keep the tartan look without bombing the forum with a huge pic.
