I'll just say that, to this New Yorker's eyes, the photos are not of "real" people, but of fashion models. As such, they are as liable to extreme in the outfit as any dress one sees in the news of the latest fashion show of a big designer.

Bottom line, these get-ups are OUT THERE, but intentionally so.

The photo caption in the original article states:

WORKPLACE WEAR Left, Thomas McEntee in a shorts suit by Obedient Sons. Center, Kwesi Blair in his summer uniform. Right, Alejandro Rhett, an associate merchant at J. Crew.

Professional models don't usually get credited.

There is a slide show that accompanies the article that includes both runway models and plebeians. In my opinion, only a couple of them have nailed an appropriate office look (what the article was about), and I'm not talking about the slouches in the sacks and sandals.
