Is there an alternative to the Jabot for a doublet
Inspired by the pictures of McMurdo in full fig I mentioned my aspirations towards a doublet to my friend Bugpiper. He has a doublet that might fit me.
It was made for a piper but he has reneged on the deal. It is not completely conventional in style but actually I like the sound of its features.
Its made of black barathea. Double breasted with 4 Inverness skirts, gauntlet cuffs and a high collar with a 2 to 3 inch gap.
My question is: I'm not a big fan of the lace Jabot and cuffs. Is there an alternative?
With the gauntlet cuff I'd be happy having ordinary dress French cuffs but what about the neck?
I've considered a more old fashion square bow tie or silk scarf tied in a bow or tied as a cravat and tucked into the doublet. I also considered lawyers bands, but they look rather ecclesiastical and that is look I would not wish to pursue. Over to you.
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.
