The Jabot?
When and how should the jabot be properly worn with highland attire?
What kind of shirt, which jackets, which level of formality, etc...?
Thank you.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Well I can only speak of what I've seen.
My father in law wore it to my son's wedding a few years back, with his PC, in glorious style.
He really was the patriarch of the clan, and he looked the part the entire day!

It is usually worn with one of the doublets and with a collar-less shirt (obtainable from suppliers to the legal profession who still wear them - in the UK at least). With a Montrose doublet, buttoned high to the neck it can be worn without a shirt, fastened directly around the neck. It was not, traditionally, worn with a PC although our esteemed "Shur Shawn" Connery has affected such an appearance and others may now copy him.

A second question just came to me. Is there anything somewhat (even slightly) like a jabot that can be worn as daywear?
And I thank you for your replies.

An Ascot could be worn for daywear.

An Ascot sounds interesting. If I understand correctly, that is a scarf or sort of tie with wide ends, and one end is crossed over the other, then pinned in place.
Can it be made of similar material to a jabot?

Ted, Stop thinking of "White Lacy" Jabots.
There are a HUGE # of alternatives
At the time the jacets we now ID as "Scottish" ( PC, Montrose etc) were comonally worn, ( Regency - Victorin periods) There were a LARRG # of styles of "Neck wear"
Ascots, Cravats, Neck clothes ETC, ETC. & in all colors.
I often wear an Ascot, or Neck cloth (in various colors. I also have a Black/silver Jabot that I wear for "formal wear"
Here are some sites that will give you a "TASTE"

Well... You're right, Puffer, I will probably never have any reason to wear a white lacey jabot, or a doublet for that matter. It's nice to know though.
My thoughts moved on to what I would possiblely wear in the hear and now other than a four-in-hand or maybe a bowtie. After all, I only have that corduroy daywear outfit... Plus I keep seeing something in my mind and I don't know what it is, just that it is worn with the five button waistcoat and might be lacey or ruffeled and pleated, but not a four-in-hand tie.
It could be a Cravat or an Ascot ; I don't know. Something a little more on the elegant side.
