I suppose here the motifs could be things like racoon, coyote, road runner, palm tree, cactus...
Which reminds me, I met a family visiting from Australia who were absolutely convinced that racoons, road runners and coyotes were imaginary creatures. I told them I recently saw a coyote in my back yard and that racoons prowl around every night, but they thought I was putting them on/pulling their leg.
