Bugbear, I’m all for indigenous symbolism.
This is why several of my tartan designs feature South African plants or animals.
I have seen some absolutely beautiful Scottish thistle belt buckle designs which I would be proud to own, but something inside me says I should look for a protea, a strelitzia, a springbok, a blue crane or a secretary bird (to name a few possibilities).
Dale – too right. An upside-down full mask sporran, even made of a bat, would be very disturbing.
And since it’s an endangered species, we probably won’t see any such sporrans.
