Hello from an Oregon MacKenzie
Hello,
Just introducing myself. I am Kristen MacKenzie from central Oregon. I am joining to find a larger gaelic community, to learn from you all, to get advise and to share.
The name MacKenzie comes to me from my maternal Grandfather, who's mother still spoke a bit of Scottish Gaelic. (I'd love to know what the best learning material would be to pick some of this up.)
I grew up in southeastern Washington, where we have a respectable Caledonian Days, in our back yard, and I attend it whenever possible!
I'm proud to say I had my kilt made (yes I know ladies did not historically wear the kilt) in Edinburgh while visiting Scotland in 2006. That tour of Scotland, the Hebrides, the Orkneys, and parts of Hadrian's wall will always stand out as one of the best trips of my life!
I'll be attending my first Burns Supper in a couple of weeks, and hope to garner some advice from you all!
Thanks all,
Kristen MacKenzie
