Nine of my 18 Confederate ancestors served with John Hunt Morgan*, and they were all either Highland Scots or Ulster-Scots background. Three of my ancestors who served with the Stonewall Brigade were Ulster-Scots as well....
My favourite Brit' with the CSA was not an observer, but an actual participant with Morgan's Raiders, Colonel George St. Leger Grenfell, a very interesting character. He assisted in the training of Morgan's scouts led by an Irish candy store owner named Thomas Quirk.
When I was reenacting with the now defunct Co.A 2nd Kentucky Cavalry "Morgan's Raiders" / & Quirk's Scouts, a compatriot of mine from Australia did a 1st person impression of Grenfell. (I did a 1st person of the notorious Kentucky guerilla chieftain Capt. Champ Ferguson)....
(*John Hunt Morgan was of Welsh stock.)

St Albans raiders were in fact former members of John Hunt Morgan's command. After the disastrous Ohio Raid of July 1863 (in which one of my ancestors was captured, the rest got away), a number of key members (scouts & officers) from Morgan's command formed a secret espionage group in Canada. Ol' Grenfell was amongst them...
Until a little over a year ago I had a free website devoted to John Hunt Morgan & his Raiders.
Though it has nothing to do with kilts, for those interested, I have a pair of articles on Grenfell & Quirk that I'll post as a follow-up.
