I have a leather jacket that gets a lot of wear, in all types of weather, and still looks pretty new. Actually, it looks too new for my tastes. After nearly three years it's finally starting to show a little wear(very little) and in another year or two might have that "lived in" look and feel I like. That's why I've worn them for the last 15 years...they last, they work in most conditions, they'll take an ungodly beating, look better with a bit of wear and tear, and unless they get really filthy they smell good!
I can't say anything about leather kilts though. Never owned one, and at present I have no plans to. I can see how they would be good in chilly and drizzly weather though. I'm sure they last forever. Maybe someday I'll try one.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.
