If it helps, here are some photos of a 6 yard knife pleated kilt I made for myself.




Without getting it out of my closet and counting, I think there are either 18 or 19 pleats across the back, which are about 1.25" wide.

For comparison, here is another kilt I own, which is only 5 yards.


The pleats on this one are also about 1.25" wide, but they are not as deep. How many pleats you get and how wide they are will have a lot to do, as well, with the size of the sett of the tartan.
