When given a choice, most people will choose.

Well yes I do, but not always wearing the kilt. If not the kilt then cords, tweed plus 4's, or some such, but nearly always a collar and tie,( tattersall/bengal stripe/gingham check type shirt) when plodding about the place. Often a tweed jacket, or perhaps, a wool pullover(sweater) sometimes both!

Precisely, Michael! As the Chief of the Auld Crabbits, Hector Naismith Macdonald would say, "quite!" I love Jock's demeanour and outlook on life in general, nevermind his impeccable taste in all things Highland (and non-Highland) dress! We are all indeed very blessed to have him aboard the forum.
Cheers,

Wonderful Jock, simply wonderful! 'Deep exhale,' you're truly a breath of fresh air. I often think of the times in our collective history, when men wore neckties and women wore dresses everyday, and for almost every occassion. I wish it was still that way.
Best wishes,

There's nothing stopping you - go ahead and do it!
You never know, other people may catch on, and before you know it, your small act will have snowballed into a fashion phenomenon!
I've actually been considering a gradual wardrobe upgrade that includes more suits and ties...

Yes! I agree. My mum has some wonderful photos of my grandparents who by all accounts made their friends feel like they were out with "movie stars". It was just a different time, and people dressed with pride.
I am in the process of copying (scanning) the family photos, but there are alot, and I'm generally only home once a year.
Not Highland dress, although both of these ancestors were born in Scotland:

My Great Grandmother. Ok, she's going to church... but still, gloves, pearls... and the shoes!

My other Great Grandmother's cousin. And he's posing for a pic, but he did dress when he went out.
Still trying to find pics of my family in kilts... My mum has a kilt that came from her Grandma's family (the lady above)... but so far, no pics of anyone in it!
Sorry for the High-jack!
Cheers,
Michael

Oh,
I didn't realise it before (maybe I was immune), but according to a friend who has recently moved to New Zealand, we are rather infamous as a nation of people who very often go bare-foot in town.
Times have really changed!
Cheers,
Michael

Oh dear! Aye, times have indeed changed, in some ways, for the better!
