These discussions always leave a question in the back of my mind. How has the rest of the world contributed to the development of modern Scotland in a positive sense? Sometimes I am left with an underlying, emotional feeling that Scottish culture views itself as a one-way street going out to the rest of the world, but the rest of the world tarnishes Scotland with it's influence.
