For those considering a Skyroll purchase the time is right right now as Menswearhouse is having a buy one get one free sale through I believe the 5th of September, including free shipping. Regular Skyroll is $129 for two and the rolling Skyroll is $249 for two. Sale link is here:

    Enjoy.

I Almost ordered one a couple of weeks ago. For once procrastination worked in my favor. Thanks for the alert.

My wife and I each got one the last time around. They were promptly shipped and delivered. We will put them to use on our trip to Scotland next year!

So the original, smaller carry-on version sounds like just the thing for my kilt and related paraphernalia for that event.
Dropped into a nearby Men's Wearhouse and picked up the smaller shoulder-strap version. Definitely just the ticket for my upcoming single-kilt trip to Japan.

Also have a new F-B sporran arriving Tuesday which should go over well in Japan as it's in black Same or stingray skin, the same that's used under the ito or cord wrapping on sword handles. The fish-leather is also an obvious choice to go with my eventual "R'lyeh Sett" kilt, once Dalgliesh finishes weaving the fabric and Matt Newsome gets the kilt made.

Re: The SkyRoll--convenient way to travel with a kilt or three

Not really a bump, but the Mens Wearhouse is again having a holiday sale Buy One Get One Free, which is a great deal for anyone interested in the Skyroll original or wheeled versions. Although the prices have gone up since last year, the regular Skyroll is $129 for two, and the rolling Skyroll is $249 for two, with free shipping I believe. Or you can just walk into your local store and pick them up, as you will pay taxes if they have a store in your state anyway.

I just used my rolling Skyroll for a business trip a couple weeks ago and it worked great---nary a wrinkle in my shirts, tie, pants, or jacket. And plenty of room for all my other stuff, including dress shoes (I wore comfortable shoes for the flights). It even has a shallow upper easily accessible zippered compartment to hold small items, perfect for your little baggie of liquids and gels you need to remove to get through security. I have not tested the capacity of my wheeled Skyroll with kilt gear yet, but travelled 9 days in Scotland 15 months ago for a golfing trip and carried three tanks in the garment bag portion of my regular Skyroll as carry on, and the garment bag part of the rolling Skyroll is even bigger and seems to likely be able to hold even more if necessary. 50%+ bigger main compartment too.

    Merry Xmas.

Very kind of you to post the heads up on this. I have occassionally looked for these. I am not sure what the deal is with the product but at any given time a large percentage of their resellers are out of stock or are marked as discontinued or similar wording. Thanks Jeff

I haven't stopped thinking of this thread since you first posted about it. I might just have to go get one. I am sure it will work for my uniforms when i travel as well.

    Thanks again!!

Re: The SkyRoll--convenient way to travel with a kilt or three

I got both the wheeled and original versions at the same time. Used the wheeled version for kilts on a 4-day trip to my parents' in the Denver area in August, and loved it.

This Sunday I'll be going to Japan and plan to take one checked bag and one carryon as I need to take some "regular clothes"; appropriate clothing for days of martial arts training; bottle of malt for my hotel room; and "dressier" clothing for our grandmaster's birthday party at the end. And I need something I can use to schlep a sweater, my gi top, and a couple of other items back & forth between my hotel in Kashiwa and the training in Noda, which will be in an outdoor park (Shimizu Koen).

Checked bag will be my wheeled SwissGear Zurich black upright 24". I've used it several times and my girlfriend has borrowed it several times, and we both like it.

Carry-on will be the original SkyRoll with two kilts, my little Toshiba netbook (can't check it, must carry), and a few other odds and ends. Once I'm over there, I should be able to just remove the garment bag and use the tube with shoulder strap to take my stuff to & from training on a daily basis.

Re: The SkyRoll--convenient way to travel with a kilt or three

Okay, now I am officially impressed with the original-recipe shoulder strap version. I'm now in Japan.

In the garment bag I brought two kilts and my Harris Tweed Argyle & waistcoat. In the central compartments were my Toshiba netbook for use at the hotel, peripherals for the Toshiba and my iPhone 4S; a couple of paperback novels; black brogues and a travel-size shoeshine kit; and sunglasses case. No problem with overhead storage.

And I only just got around, after arriving yesterday evening, to unrolling the garment bag and hanging the contents. I should point out that I spent Thanksgiving and the next two days at my girlfriend's, and she then drove me to the airport Sunday morning. That means everything has been packed in the Skyroll from Thursday morning to Monday evening, California time.

I could have just hung up all the woolies, and I'm convinced they'd be ready to wear in a few hours. But I wanted to wear one of the kilts right away after unpacking them, so I used the little hand-steamer I was canny enough to bring along. Mere seconds and the kilt selected for wear was pristine.
