Shepherd's plaid kilt hose
Finished both socks!

This project requires attention! It’s not for relaxed knitting with a glass of wine.
This project was much harder than I thought it would be. It was easy to get off-track with the plaid pattern, and the stranding makes the stocking less elastic than plain knitting.
I had to re-chart Mrs. Newsome’s pattern, because I needed to see the whole leg, not just a segment.
I dyed the Scots green. The oatmeal is not dyed.
I made the heels and toes out of a different sock yarn, with a nylon thread reinforcement. I used a garter ridge, so that I can easily cut them out and replace them. This was Elf's idea, my execution.
If I make these again, I will have four inches of the calf at 70 stitches, for Steve’s 16.5” calf.

Outstanding, and they will go really well with my tartan. (Hint hint, jab jab, wink wink)
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

Beautifully done! I can appreciate that hard work! My mom's a knitter and I have a lot of respect for those who can do it.

That is outstanding. Wow. As I approach the time when I will make my first pair my mother, (the greatest knitter who has ever lived), told me something important. She has never knit a pair from the toe up; always from the calf down. She says start the sock with needles two sizes larger than the ones the sock will be knit from, then after a few rows go one smaller and then after a few more rows to the size needles for the sock itself. That way the calf will not be so tight it breaks the yarn.
Your work is really great and I know many out here in the rabble feel that having such a fine pair of hose would be like having a fine sports car for some. Congratulations. Keep it up.

Nice work!! That is some attention to detail (even to the point of dying the yarn; nice)

Why wait? Grab some needles and yarn and, pretty soon, she'll be asking you to make a pair for her!
