I think of it the same as asking why have a self-tie necktie when a clip on is easier and does the job just as well? The answer is that an imitation is rarely as good as the real thing.
Actually, this feature does not impact the cost of the jacket significantly, and in our minds adds a lot in terms of quality and distinctiveness.
(However, if you really must have fake buttons on your cuffs, we can certainly handle that by special request).
