I agree. I wear ghillies vice buckles for more formal events because I feel more cormfortable in them - and because my wife and daughters like the look. Pick your look and MAKE it yours.

Lol... good one. I tries a pair like these on (my feet) at the store thinking I wouldn't like them, but, man, was I surprised. I need new shoes for a wedding I'll be the best man in (not kilted, I was asked specifically not to wear my kilt) and plan on keeping them around for other formal events that I might attend while kilted.

Personally, I think the fringe and tassels are not very formal looking (too rustic?) but that you might be able to replace them with a buckle for black tie wear. They are nice looking shoes though and could work for dressy occasions.

from personal experience of being a best man the first thing you need is comfortable shoes. You will be on your feet for a long time during the day so whatever shoes you wear make sure that you break them in first and that they are comfortable for all day wear.

Re: Ghillie brogues and PC outfit
I know its been a few days since the last post. (and a few months since mine, Hello again!)
With only a few weeks til my wedding (Oct 7th) i've been trying to decide myself what should I wear. Ghillie Brogues because they are available and traditional? or my Rockport Wingtip Borgues highly polished and comfortable?
well 1st of all my fiance isn't a fan of the laces (don't get me wrong she is in full support of my scottish attire) but just doesn't find them attractive.
2nd - while the laces don't bother me. I know the rockports will be more comfirtable.
fiances opinion + comfort = wingtip brogues for me.
and just to add two cents on what they will be with. a Dark green regimental style jacket (looks very simalier to a prince charlie but a few details are different) - bowtie - formal sporran and most likley white hose - to match my shirt all with an austin Tartan 16oz kilt. no relation to austin - just that the store got it confused with the blackwatch at first until further inspection - and it was on sale from 400$ down from 700$ - so the moved the buckles - it fit like a glove so i don't care about a minor detail in the Tartan in which most people wont even notice.

Go with the wingtips. But I strongly encourage you to wear a pair of Lovat blue hose instead of the white. I think you'll really appreciate the difference.

I'm not even a guy who is totally opposed to light-colored hose, assuming the're well-made. But your concern should definitely NOT be matching your hose and shirt. Go with some color!

Of course, if you look at the wedding album on my public profile, you'll notice I failed to give the old color wheel much of a spin.
Hmm. Grain of salt, anyone?
