    Re: Vintage Clan/Tartan Book

Congratulations, you have a nice little piece of history there.

I have the same book. It was passed on to me from my mother in 1997. It was passed to her from my Great-aunt in 1978. I grew up with my Great-aunt living next door to us. She had many stories about our heritage and the San Francisco Bay Area (our family arrived in San Francisco in 1839.)

In early 1933 she traveled to Edinburgh to visit her cousin. She found the book in a little shop on a side street. It was published in 1931.

It would be interesting to compare the differences (if any ) between the two books.

Initially, the differences seem fairly subtle. The one I have doesn't have the Publishers name or "Edinburgh" on the front jacket.
Interestingly, even though mine was published/printed 15 years after your copy, the edition number (32nd) is the same, so it would seem that they didn't make any noteworthy changes. I imagine there might be different advertisers, and possibly just a different order of the contents.
Funny to see how many of these little guys are still out there.

RAF Is this a typo? Mine is the 22nd edition.

I wonder if it is old world, passed on through the family, or just a smaller version of a corporation that has taken on a life of its own? Possibly a little of both?

My mother has that book, but hers looks to be an early edition because the ads are much older that those shown here.

Just had a look at it, I think my mothers version has the red Brodie and I know that the colour of the tartan plates are darker in her edition.

Sorry, I mis-read your picture. That makes more sense.
