Hiking Kilted in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park

I've been hiking all summer in my Ancient Mackay kilt from USA Kilts, and have finally decided to post some photos. My gal and I had a great day hiking in the Sunrise area of the Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington State. We were between 6000'-8000' in elevation. It was so windy in some spots that my hat was blown off my head three times. All eyes were on me as everyone kept waiting for a "Big Reveal" with the wind blowing so hard. It was like being in a wind tunnel in some spots. Luckily I was able to keep my modesty intact and will never be afraid of the wind possibley blowing my kilt up again!
    Anyway, on with the pictures...

Here you can see the wind blowing my kilt.

Here is a pleat shot from my first hike earlier this summer on Sauk Mt.

It was a great day to be out hiking. We ended up hiking about nine miles. After doing 12 hikes this summer all kilted, I'll never hike any other way again.

Great pics, Celt. I am in awe of some of the landscape this country has. I've seen most of it in person, but somehow, I ended up in the middle of a cornfield.

...and, yes, hiking kilted is the best.

Re: Hiking Kilted in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park

Lucky you! Great photos, thanks for posting them. I grew up with a view of Mount Rainier, and visited the mountain often to ski and hike. Spectacular scenery.

In my youth, I was lucky enough to go up with famed mountaineer Jim Whittaker and his crew to visit some ice caves that had not been seen for over 50 years. It had been a very hot summer which gave us a tiny openening. We had to slide on our backs through a three-foot hole in the glacier and down a long, wet, muddy gravel hill to get into the ice chambers. I was in no way a mountain climber, and it was challenging, thrilling and quite scary. But I'll never forget nature's crystal palace under the glacier. Eerily quiet, dark (we used head lamps) and a surreal color of ice blue.

Ah, youth! Wish I could do that again!

    Cheers, Jocelyn

Great pics! Ain't it wonderful to get comfy kilted in the wind and just let the pleats dance in the wind without worry?

Re: Hiking Kilted in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park

Great photos! I've been all over the mountain, but never kilted (and I have no idea why...) What a great way to enjoy both the kilt and the wonderful natural settings we have in the Northwest.

...which makes me ask: "Why don't we have an XMTS Washington group or something along those lines? I was at the fair today, and it occurred to me that it would be a blast to have 20 kilties rolling through like we own the place.

    Thanks for the post!!

    Brad
