Re: Favourite Scottish (themed) Novels
It's been a number of years since I read these, but I really enjoyed the trilogy by Lewis Grassic Gibbons -- The Scots Quair. The three novels are Sunset Song, Cloud Howe and Gray Granite.

Now I was just about to post that... I used to live in that neck of the woods...

Re: Favourite Scottish (themed) Novels
Before Diana Gabaldon there was Barbara Erskine. She's written quite a few historical/present novels, several of which are set in or about Scotland.
Lady of Hay, 1986
*Kingdom of Shadows, 1988
*Child of the Phoenix, 1992
Midnight is a Lonely Place, 1994
House of Echoes, 1996
On the Edge of Darkness, 1998
Whispers in the Sand, 2000
Hiding from the Light, 2002
Daughters of Fire, 2006
The Warrior's Princess, 2008
Time's Legacy, 2010
The * titles are the books that I remember feature Scotland.
