I think it's just a sagging figment of your imagination lol
Heavy wool hose, I'm sure it's just sagging.

Argyll Hose for day wear, I tried this the day I got these hose, but I've only worn this combination twice in 3 or 4 years, this was one time and the other was for a photo shoot for a website.
Diced hose Formal wear, I've recently received these hose as a Birthday gift and for example I would not wear these during the day, perhaps it is as Jamie says it is because of the colour of them not lending themselves to day wear.

I agree with both McMurdo and Jamie, I don't think I would wear diced hose for daywear. However, that could be, as McMurdo suggests, due to the strong (contrasting) colouring. The pics of Matt's more subdued diced hose seem quite fitting for daywear- I suppose it depends on the rest of the accessories...
Thanks for the pics gentlemen!

I guess so, but then... I'm not 100% convinced.

Which is arguably, a traditional standpoint. And I agree with you completely!

Also Richard,
Do not forget that many of the men, if not all, in Kenneth MacLeay's, The Highlanders of Scotland, series, were provided with the best Highland attire that could be mustered, in all its finery and glittering accessories, by their respectable Chief or Chieftain and in some cases, arranged personally by MacLeay. Of course, we realise the main purpose behind this was because each man was sitting for their portrait to be painted by MacLeay, who in turn was originally commissioned by Queen Victoria. The Queen wished for her beloved Highland subjects to look their best for the folio! Which makes complete sense.
Slainte,

Slainte,
Wonderful though these pictures are, and they undoubtedly are, they should be put into the same class as Harry Potter, Star Trek, Tom and Jerry and Micky Mouse when it comes to fanciful thinking and have little to do with true examples of Highland attire worn by the majority of Highladers at that time. To coin a phrase: "Eye candy for a Queen", no more, no less.

I'd like to see Tom and Jerry kitted out Jock-style.

Precisely. This topic has already been thoroughly discussed on XMTS, but I will say, even though the Highlanders painted by MacLeay have indeed been highly romanticised, there are wonderful, little details and nuances (tartan waistcoats, bespoke sporrans, ornate dirks and sgian dhubhs, gorgeous plaids and brooches, variations of doublet styles, hose styles, mis-matching patterns, etc) in which today's wearer of Highland dress could take away and make their own. Especially for evening attire. Just leave the broadsword, powder horn, Claymore, targe, etc, at home!
Cheers,

It would be awfully fun to have access to the "wardrobe department" that all of this stuff came from, especially if it were all in my size!
