figheadair, Woodsheal, two have provided invaluable information in an extremely informative thread. My living history group actually ranges from the 1640's to 1746, and I used to focus more on the earlier history. You two have helped me to accurately expand my range of garb. Thank you!

I'd really love to go again, Nick, but this time in modern clothes -- it's hard to sit on small wooden benches with a kilt! We won free tickets to it this year, so I'm not sure if we want to shell out the cash!

I think the fact that I had my sporran attached to my kilt belt, making it sit up way too high, is making the waistcoat look too long -- it's actually pretty short. I wore it with a separate belt today for a costume contest at work and I think it looks a little better.

Any photos of the what the laced shoes look like? Where they similar to latchet shoes?

Matt, I believe that they are exactly the same as the latchet shoes. Stories have it that as buckles could become lost a were prohibitively expensive then the latchets were cut shorter, a couple of holes and laces inserted and you have a means of fastening the shoe
