Off-topic, but I had to ask to which Sherlockian group you belong to?

Being a life long Sherlockian (with my last name would you expect any less? ) I use to belong to a local (now defunct) group myself.

I'm a bit of a fan myself.

I stayed up watching a recording of Hound of the Baskervilles into the small hours of this morning, and I have various editions of the Casebooks and novels, even a facsimile of the originals from The Strand magazine - I was wondering what the new film was like.

I might find the time to go to the cinema to see it, if all goes to plan.

Action packed, fast paced, funny, witty. A bit of a free take on the writings, but well done. To me, Mycroft and Moriarity stole the movie, my favorite scene as a Sherlockian is the "Chess match" . This movie is worth your time.

I also have various editions as well as a facsimile of the originals from The Strand. It's been one of my great pleasures in life to introduce various members of my family to the Canon (wife, sister, niece & nephews), and watch their love of the great detective grow over time. Just last month my 12 year old daughter came to me and asked if I had a book of Holmes stories that she could borrow. It gave me great joy to reach over to my collection and hand her the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The torch is being passed.

Being Military and moving around the world every 2 to 3 years I belong to a lot of them, the big one is BSI ( The Baker Street Irregulars), while living here in Maryland I am a member and attend WTB (Watson's Tin Box) and some SNB ( Six Napoleons of Baltimore ) events.

I use to belong to Dr. Whatcom's Sherlockian Society here in Bellingham. It was affiliated with The Sound of the Baskervilles here in the greater Puget Sound region (Dr. Whatcom's has been defunct for sometime). The Sound of the Baskervilles is a scion society of BSI and I've been entertaining the idea of joining up with them.

I too am a fan of "the canon" and I'm working my way through it (again) at this very time.

I know that movie trailers can be misleading, but whenever I've seen any of the trailers for these new Holmes movies I've seen nothing which is remotely like the books I love. Indeed the trailers suggest movies which resemble The Fast and the Furious or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon more than they do Sherlock Holmes.

And yes, a physical resemblance between Holmes and Downey is utterly lacking. A character's look is part of the character.

I've not been tempted into the theatre to see any of these new Holmes films.

Actually, I can't recall much about any film version of Holmes at all! I saw the old Basil Rathbone films as a child and I remember little.

About kilts, could someone post a photo showing the pipers in this movie? I would be very curious to see who the pipers are, and how the costumers chose to dress them.
