    lol Happy Yule!

    as for the Mayans, nothings going to happen It's just the end of a baktun. If my Mesoamerican Anthropology professor wasnt worried about it, Im sure not going to be!

    A couple of my family members have brought it up, but if it isn't one thing it's another.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
    Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

    Pretty much how I feel... Kind of like my 2011 calendar is about to expire... I guess some enterprising mayan figured he could save himself from being sacrificed "i'll just do another month..."

    Re: Yuletide greetings!

    I'll share my favorite Winter Solstice poem, "The Shortest Day" by Susan Cooper:

    And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
    And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
    Came people singing, dancing,
    To drive the dark away.
    They lighted candles in the winter trees;
    They hung their homes with evergreen;
    They burned beseeching fires all night long
    To keep the year alive.
    And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
    They shouted, revelling.
    Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
    Echoing behind us – listen!
    All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
    This Shortest Day,
    As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
    They carol, feast, give thanks,
    And dearly love their friends,
    And hope for peace.
    And now so do we, here, now,
    This year and every year.
    Welcome Yule!
    "It's all the same to me, war or peace,
    I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."
