Re: What did you get for Xmas!?
I was very thankful for the lump of coal I received for my Christmas gift; though I outwardly grumbled about it. I worked very hard at expressing my inner, larval curmudgeon all year.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Re: What did you get for Xmas!?
I received a lovely sweater from my mother - it can be found here: http://www.gaelsong.com/fullsize/106/21
This is a wonderful thing! I took it off last night to sleep but otherwise have had it on all the time.
I received the book, "Harris Tweed, From Land to Street" from my lovely wife. Dream book. Wonderful stuff.

Well I think I did rather well. I had a fantastic made to measure burgundy waistcoat. A lovely pocket watch with albert chain, a Cameron of erracht ancient tie and some lovely purple garter ties. What a lovely partner I have. I am a very lucky man.

A lump of coal would be most welcome around these parts. Japanese homes are essentially made of wood and paper, do NOT have insulation, or double-paned windows, or central heating and oil/kerosene space heaters are the only way to heat the rooms inside at a semi-reasonable price (and with the global price of oil, that ain't cheap either)... It's not unusual for our hallways and bathroom to be at a constant 6C (43F) all winter long. When I'm in the kitchen making my morning coffee, I can see my breath. (Like this morning).

I received a wonderful set of Baccarat double old fashion glasses. And a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year bourbon.
Fortunately, they go together.

You don't keep a coffee maker on the nightstand by the bed?

Re: What did you get for Xmas!?
Best gift received was from my daughter, and was an early 19th c. mezzotint engraving of Major General David Steward of Garth (engraved by Samuel W. Reynolds, Engraver to the King, after a painting by James M. Scrymgeour). She found it in an antique store in NYC, and she knows me too well! The print is in excellent condition, and shows some interesting clothing details of a famous kilted military gentleman during the Highland Revival. I estimate that it was engraved between Garth's promotion to Major General and Reynold's death in 1835.
A question for you knowledgeable XMarkers: After Garth's name are the letters "C.B.F.R.S.E and F.S.L." That's exactly the way they appear on the engraving. Anyone know what they mean?
In return, I gifted the daughter with a Renaissance-style necklace pendant (http://www.stauer.com/item/Tudor-Eme...-CTW%29/21471/ )
Oh, and another nice gift received was: Green Bay 35, Chicago 21. Go Pack!
