I vote for the Argyll, but am wondering if anyone will notice the jacket when they're fascinated by your very unique kilt hose.

    Re: Going on a cruise

In 2007 we did a Chistmas cruise on Carnival, which is a pretty informal cruise line in general. Their formal night is "Black-Tie optional", which means a dark suit is OK for gentlemen, so I just wore my Argyll and waistcoat with a white shirt and a tie, and was more 'dressed up' than many passengers at the dinner. Except for the tie and white shirt I got more than one use out of the rest of that outfit during the 5 days we were on the boat, so I did not need more than one case to bring along my kit. I took 3 kilts with a few co-ordinating shirts and hose etc. and only one pair of jeans that I wore once for our horseback riding shore excursion.

Aw, hell...you didn't wear the kilt on the horseback riding? You passed up the opportunity to do the "Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace..." bit?

Argyll more flexible and, face it, you'll STILL be outdressing any other guy on the boat.

Except for perhaps me as I'll be on the same cruise!

Have to put a plug in for the military who wear their mess dress or even full dress uniforms. They get considerable attention as well - and deserve every minute of it.

    Too true.

That is a reason I leave the military dress stuff at home.

But remember we are just arm candy for our even lovelier ladies.

    Re: Going on a cruise

Well the cruise got bumped to April instead of May due to scheduling conflicts but got the reservations made on everything that we can.

Got the Argyle and waistcoat on order from Rocky. We will have one semi-formal night (from what I have learned that is a fairly flexable term), a dinner at the Palo and a Pirate night. Don't think the jacket will be needed on the pirate night. Probably no kilt either. The idea of a pirate kilted up in the rigging or swinging between the ships might be a bit of an eyeful

I was faced with a similar decision when I came to Hong Kong and opted for the black Argyll. Knowing I would be doing black tie at least once and could wear it for semi-formal too was a great economy when packing my bags.

Well Drac, we've also changed our cruise plans so let me pull you out from under the bus!

We're now going on a cruise to Bermuda in September, instead of to Canada.

And yes, I'll be wearing my kilt for formal night.
