Rocky...this intrigues me. Why is the twill backwards/opposite on Locharron's Strome? Would a novice kiltmaker who knows that the twill is supposed to run the other way know that you are supposed to do it backwards on this fabric by looking at the cloth (ie. is there a noticable difference between the "finished" side of the cloth and the back)?

Most of the time, the fabric you get at any UK mill will be effectively perfect on both sides. Why they have a 'bad side' is if there are any knots in the threads (where a thread color ends or if a thread broke and needed to be re-tied). When the mill send you cloth, it will be folded. the "face" or good side will be on the INSIDE.
