I swear that if I set up a stand giving out free ice cream to passers-by, I would still get people complaining about it!
There will always be someone who doesn't like what someone else is doing, and there's no point in trying to please everyone. If you wish to wear a kilt on St. Patrick's Day, then by all means, wear a kilt.
I happily wear my Irish Saffron on that day, go down to the local and drink all the Guinness my belly can handle.
The only restriction on wearing kilts on that day is in the minds of certain individuals who have a very particular interpretation of how things aught to be. They are entitled to their opinion, but I'm entitled to mine.
